There is plenty to read again and I have started with Helen Dillon. I agree entirely with all of it. My Acacia baileyana is wondering whether to stay with me or not too.
The recipe by Jill Fish looks good. Filo horns with compost of summer berries. I will make that. I even have the Grandma liqueur. |

Compost of berries?!! I agree with the Helen Dillon piece too, there are lots of casualties in my garden & I'm going to take it as an opportunity to have a good sort out. There's another new contributor on the 'Your Gardens' page from Gloucestershire, wonder if he's looked in on the forum yet? I'm not keen on the section on lawns, it's just an extended advert for the sponsors 'Evergreen' & recommends every chemical known to man (or their company! )as being vital to lawn health. I don't have a lawn now but consider the only essentials are mowing, raking & aerating unless you're opening your garden to the public & want it to be perfect. |

| I don't even read about lawns, because we only have grass here with regular mole visitors. |

I was interested to read of the giant pumpkin Medwin and his son are going to grow...to turn into a boat.... ...just imagine a weight of 600lb....wonder how our forum boys will perform in comparison???????? Still lots of talk of allotment lists....983 people in Camden waiting for plots ....doesn't bear thinking about!! I see some of the large suppliers are pulling out their sales of carrot plugs........we have discussed this (plugs in general) on the forum already As Terry Walton says.....they have their place.... As expected the larger compost suppliers are protesting at the WHICH report on their products......Personally I would love to see a viable alternative to peat based composts....but....... I always look forward to reminders on begonias .. from Alan Harris mine are sprouting nicely in the heated propagator.. Like others on here, not particularly interested in lawn care....mine grows smaller each year... but there are plenty of folk who will appreciate the info.... Finding Terry Walton's allotment musings of interest... still a lot to read....... |

| I was interested to read in Carol Klein's article that vine weevils thrive in peat rich compost - another reason to try peat-free! |

Noticed in Tony Bracegirdle's article that he says "cut each stem to 6mm(two ana half inches)"This must be a mis-print because 6mm is only about a quarter of an inch and I'm sure that is what Tony meant. What has happened to Carol Warters? She has not been in for 2 weeks and her name has stopped appearing with the rest of the staff. Is she just on holiday or has she left? |

Maybe they just like the texture of it to lay their eggs in or snuggle up in? I agree with Steve though that I think Carol is anti-peat but then so am I even though I still use it sometimes (hypocrite! ) |
