I'm another one that doesn't subscribe, but I've bought GA for many years, and since being on here, have bought GN too. I visit a number of forums too in the UK, but always feel this is home, with lots of help for even the daftest questions (of which I have many) and am never made to feel inadequate. I'm happy to be called Lynn or Grindle, I don't mind either. I think no matter what new forum you join, you always feel like an outsider to start, eventually you ease yourself in. I like there is no snarky remarks or backbiting here too. So thank you all for being my friends, you're a great lot |

i agree with you grindle about feeling a bit out of sorts when you join a new site i think its up to the newbie to make some sort of effort too the oldies on here (ahem) do make you feel very welcome and help whenever they can and im grateful for it and the help iv'e got you all couldnt be more helpfull and i thank you for it youv'e made me laugh quite a lot these past few months. you folks have helped me even though you dont know it because im going through a bad patch and i thank you for that to the banter you have with each other really makes me laugh like some others i would like to meet some of you but that will never happen. the amount of time i have been on here im starting to get to know you.also i dont mind what im called either doug or tadpole it doesnt matter as long as you call me when theres bacon butties on the go

As 'Gladys' said it's expensive running a forum like this with not a lot of advertising. I think we owe it to them to try more to encourage more members and potential mag readers. I've mentioned some time ago that refering to eachother by our real names could appear 'in-house or cliquey' which could put potential members off joining. The name Steve/Gladys is not unlike Pennyron, but though I can only speak for myself, it has nothing to do with 'gender re-alignment' I would like to see more regular posters from far n' near, but other than the reason I've already suggested I can't think of how to attract nebies, except maybe not to overwhelm them with responce on their first post. I think everyone on here is extreemly friendly and tollerant when it comes to me If I may risk 'the chop', though there are members who can offer good advice, more 'official' advice would perhaps be appreciated by newbies until they get to know us. |

i think Ron, that any 'advice' given here is only some of us relating personal experience, eg I doubt very much if i could guide someone wishing to grow Orchids as I have no experience of these although I have read some stuff. Other stuff which I feel more competent about advice giving is what I have grown and found to work for me. I would add that what works for some people doesn't necessarily work for everyone, unfortunately. As far as names are concerned, I have been called many things over the years some of which wouldn't get past the censor here but as long as nobody is spiteful then I don't think it matters overmuch. Nobody ever had to reveal their proper name in the first place and even then it could be a nom de plume. |

| I have never subscribed to GN but have bought it every week since it started. It was like a little newspaper black and white and cost about sixpence, although I buy other garden mags I like GN best and I enjoy walking to my village shop to get it and talk to people on the way otherwise I might not meet anyone all day. |

Well, that’s that one sorted then, it looks like you’re stuck with me for the duration.
I was quite happy chugging along in my own little world when, for no apparent reason, I thought that my buying an odd copy of GN didn’t entitle me to be a member of this forum. Perhaps this forum was set up for its subscribers. My morals and my conscience were giving me such a hard time that I had to ask the question. |

Well I'm kind of mixed up with names. Graham calls me Rosie but most folks call me Lindy. I hate my 'proper' name and i know some folks on here know it
I'm glad your staying WF the forum wouldn't be the same if you weren't here. Actually i think everyone on here makes it a good place to be in one way or another |

I'm pleased you are sticking with us WF. I always look forward to seeing the pictures of your beautiful garden which you so obviously get a lot of pleasure from. I think we are all happy in our own little world when we are in our gardens. |

| Rosie, I like your name. Would it be better if I called you Rosie instead of Lindy (still like Lindy)? |

I love the name 'Rosie', I try & remember to call people by their forum name when I'm on the forum but sometimes forget & I do abbreviate names such as 'Ron' for Pennyron. I think people who read G.N. can work out some of our real names by the contributions we make to 'Yor Gardens' & comments on here. I seem to remember that as soon as I joined here not long after the site started Steve realised who I was & a few other people picked up on it very quickly, not too difficult though given my very imaginative forum name! I think we may seem a little 'cliquey' because there aren't that many active members on here & we tend to know each other fairly well even if only 'virtually'. Hopefully though new members will find it easy to join in as they can easily jump in on any subject without having to butt in inbetween rapid posts. I have bought G.N. & G.A. regularly for years but don't subscribe to G.A. (yet) & only started to subscribe to G.N. a year or so ago. I found this site & forum via G.N. magazine & belong to a few other ones associated with gardening magazines I read. |

Thanks Tel, you’re not half as glad as me, I don’t think myself or my garden could cope without this forum, I’m sure I’d never find another one which even came close to this one. |

Well I am a newbie too, and I was surprised and pleased to get such a welcome and fast response to my first post! Does anyone know how many members there are on this forum? |

If you have a look at the top of the page it says "Live For Gardening Forum", under that you will see "Members", if you click on that you will get a list of all the members.
I hope you stay Rita, I love seeing how a new garden unfolds, (and how Coco is doing). |

| I would echo what Wildlife Friendly has written and, of course, you don't need to buy the publications to join here. It really doesn't matter. |

Gosh I wouldn't have given it a though.
I came on here March 2007 after buying GA. I love GA so I subscribed immediatly, After being on the forum I did subscribe to GN too, I gave this up as I just had no time to read it because of working more hours really.
WF you are an invaluable member on here so go no where
I'm a nightmare with names so I ususally stick with the forum name that's ok for Rosie, but I know it drives Cherry nuts |

Thankyou Alisonmarie. Rosie likes her forum name, but I don't like mine. I didn't know about forum names when I joined here and put my user name and the other name the wrong way round. I don't like cherries, hated picking cherries to help the family on the orchard and got called 'cherry pie' at school for a nickname. |
